ESV Book of Common Prayer Daily Office lectionary

April 28, 2009

If you read the Daily Office from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, this is a Web-based version that uses the English Standard Version, or ESV:

Book of Common Prayer Daily Office Lectionary

I would definitely recommend the ESV as compared to some versions such as the NRSV, so overall I think this is a good thing.  (This is a reminder, of sorts, since I first posted about this in 2007.)

I have just started using the ESV online Book of Common Prayer Daily Office Lectionary. I am having a problem of matching up its scriptures with the Common Book of Prayer. For example, Trinity Sunday’s Gospel reading (Day reading) is John 1:1-18. But the reading in The Book of Common Prayer is Matthew 15:29-39. I’m confused?

I apologize for being late in responding to this – but I admit I don’t know what would cause such a problem. If you continue to encounter this, you might contact the webmaster of that ESV site, at

The people might be able to help you.
