The Rev. Charles Camlin: “The Christian’s Attitude Towards Sin” (Romans 6:9-11)

August 27, 2011

From the Rev. Charles Camlin of Holy Trinity REC in Virginia comes yet another excellent sermon. It is titled The Christian’s Attitude Towards Sin, and is based on Romans 6:9-11.  I thought this portion was a good summation:

This is the very core of the gospel—Christ came among us and went to the cross in order to bear our sins away; and He arose from the grave on the third day to defeat death.  Man’s two great enemies—sin and death—were nullified in Christ.  Sin no longer has dominion for those of us who are in Christ and as he says elsewhere, death no longer reigns over us either.

Christ came to defeat sin and death and He gave us His grace in our Baptism to overcome sin and death in our lives.  His intention for us, as we shall see in a moment, is that we might draw upon this very grace in our day to day lives and turn away from sin.

If you will read the rest of this message, Fr. Camlin talks about three things we must know and believe about sin, and two things we must do about sin.  This is a good sermon for us as we seek to live lives that testify for Jesus to the world.
