New PDF book added: “The Relation of Confirmation to Baptism” by Arthur James Mason, D.D.

December 29, 2011

I have been thinking some recently about the doctrine of confirmation and in so doing I came across the book The Relation of Confirmation to Baptism by Arthur James Mason, D.D., who was Canon of Canterbury Cathedral and Vice-Chancellor of Cambridge.  This text was first published in 1891 and this PDF is of the second edition in 1893.  I thought I would mention it and be sure it is available for anyone who is thinking about this doctrine.

This is a subject I have not read as much on, so I do not know how Mason’s doctrine compares to Hooker’s, for example.  I am currently reading what Hooker says about the subject of confirmation in Book V of his Laws, but if anyone has any suggestions for other texts on confirmation, I would be quite interested.  This essay by the late Dr. Robert Crouse, Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion:The Prayer Book Tradition in Theological Perspective, will likely be the next thing I read on this subject.
