Something Different: Appalachian Orthodox Paschal Hymn

January 9, 2016

I really don’t recall how I came across this, as it was months ago – but this is an Orthodox troparion.  Fr. Ernesto Obregon describes it as “the Paschal troparion sung to Appalachian harmonies, but conforming to tonal rules of the Slavic Orthodox.”  It definitely has an Appalachian ring to it!  The words start out:

Christ is risen from the dead
trampling down death by death
