A brief quote from Mother Maria Skobtsova, and a thought

June 27, 2016

A friend told me about Mother Maria Skobtsova, who died at Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1945.  She was quite a powerful writer and this is a brief quote from her poem Israel:

Thou art persecuted again, O Israel,

But what can human malice mean to thee,

who have heard the thunder from Sinai?

In thinking about this it has occurred to me that we too, as Christians, have heard that “thunder from Sinai.”  We hear it in the Word read and proclaimed, and we hear it in the sacraments.  We truly should fear no evil.
