Michael Taylor: “Making it our aim to please God with entertainment”

October 13, 2017

One question that comes up from time to time is: how should a Christian approach entertainment, such as television?  Certainly it seems that Hollywood has become more and more anti-Christian, as well as immoral, over the last few decades.  Michael Taylor, who is an Assistant Minister at St David’s Forestville Church in Australia, has written an excellent article on Making it our aim to please God with entertainment that could be quite helpful in thinking about this issue.  I really liked this statement by the author:

If we become just like the world then we undermine our proclamation of the very gospel that we have been sent to preach. As DL Moody once wrote, “The place for the ship is in the sea, but God help the ship if the sea gets into it”.3 That’s why Christ calls us to obedience in every aspect of our lives, that we might be cleansed from our sin and made useful to our master who bought us, our lives adorning the gospel that rescues people from this present evil age (2 Tim 2:21; 1 Cor 6:20; Gal 1:4).

I would say this is an article that could help a lot of us discern what to do with the entertainment presented to us and would encourage you to read Making it our aim to please God with entertainment.
