Theological books on PDF: Hooker, Field, etc.
By now I have compiled a number of PDF books on topics other than the Thirty-Nine Articles that deserve a consolidated page of their own on this blog, with authors such as Richard Hooker, Richard Field, and Darwell Stone. So – below you will find some of those books, loosely organized into three subject areas: the Church, Baptism, and Communion. Others will be added as I come across them. (As a matter of fact, I have now added The Old Testament as a fourth subject area.)
The Church:
By Richard Field, D.D.:
By Richard Hooker:
- Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity, Books I-IV (Google Books Link)
- Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity, Book V (Google Books Link)
Baptism:
By M.F. Sadler, M.A.
- The Sacrament of Responsibility
- The Second Adam and the New Birth: the Doctrine of Baptism as Contained in Holy Scripture
By T.H. Kingdon, B.D.
By Arthur J. Tait, D.D.:
- The Nature and Function of the Sacraments (this text is on both Baptism and Communion)
By Edward Bickersteth, M.A.
Holy Communion:
By Nathaniel Dimock, M.A.
By Darwell Stone:
- The Holy Communion
- A History of the Doctrine of the Holy Eucharist, vol. 1
- A History of the Doctrine of the Holy Eucharist, vol. 2
By Daniel Waterland, D.D:
The Old Testament:
By Keil and Delitzsch – their Old Testament commentaries:
- The Pentateuch, Volume I: Genesis through Exodus 11
- The Pentateuch, Volume II: Exodus 12 through Leviticus
- The Pentateuch, Volume III: Numbers through Deuteronomy
- Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings
- 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Job
- Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes
- Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel
- Daniel and the Twelve Minor Prophets
Thanks, Will. This is great. I wanted to make a suggestion. Some of us, instead of using up storage by saving the PDFs, save the link to the book in the cloud. I use Google Books a lot. Is it possible to provide a link to these on Google Books after the link to the books on your blog (maybe via goo.gl or some other link-shortening service so the line doesn’t get too long?). It would save a lot of time searching for the same book on Google just so I can bookmark it for later. Thanks.
That is not a bad idea and I’ll try to do that in the future, when the book comes from Google. Not all of them do – some of the Francis Hall texts on that page did not, and the two-volume Darwell Stone set on the history of the doctrine of the Eucharist was sent to me by someone else. But a majority of them do come from Google and I should be able to add a “Google link” with embedded URL to their write-ups. Thanks for the suggestion.
thanks brother!
